Artelo cannabinoid agonist holds its own against semaglutide
Artelo Biosciences' cannabinoid agonist held its own against GLP-1 drugs in obese mice, per a preclinical study.
Artelo Biosciences is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing therapeutics that modulate lipid-signalling pathways, including the endocannabinoid system. Its pipeline is led by ART27.13, a synthetic peripherally selective dual cannabinoid G protein-coupled receptor agonist in Phase 1b/2a for cancer-related anorexia, which in September 2026 reported nonclinical data in a diet-induced obesity model showing weight loss comparable to semaglutide as a monotherapy and roughly double that of semaglutide alone in combination. ART26.12 is a fatty acid binding protein 5 (FABP5) inhibitor in development for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, prostate and breast cancer, and pain, while ART12.11 is a cocrystal composition of cannabidiol and tetramethylpyrazine being evaluated for anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, epilepsy and insomnia. The company was incorporated in 2011 as Reactive Medical Inc. and renamed Artelo Biosciences in April 2017.
