July 2026 Life-Sciences Hiring: Who Is Hiring, What Roles Are Hot, and Where the Tech Stack Is Going

A data-driven analysis of 2,912 active life-sciences job postings indexed in July 2026 across 88 companies — top hirers, in-demand roles, tech-stack keywords, geographic spread, and what the hiring data tells us about the state of biotech and pharma employment in mid-2026.

The mid-2026 life-sciences hiring market remains healthier than the “biotech is in a deep freeze” narrative predicts — but the July numbers look very different from June’s, and the difference is as much about data as about demand. Across 2,912 active job postings indexed across 88 companies in July 2026, a European contract-research conglomerate is still running a global capacity campaign at steady-state volume, Eli Lilly has emerged as the largest big-pharma poster through a newly-captured manufacturing-heavy feed, gene-therapy roles now outnumber mRNA roles in the described-job slice, and AI/ML language remains present but pre-inflection. Here is what the data shows.

1. Headline Numbers

The July 2026 cohort we analyzed — drawn from public company career pages and hiring listings across the life-sciences sector — produced:

  • 7,273 job postings indexed in July 2026, of which 2,912 (40%) were still live at the August 6 snapshot — a 45% drop from June’s 13,212 indexed postings, explained below.
  • 88 distinct hiring companies represented among the active cohort.
  • 180 postings with full job descriptions (~6.2% of total) — most postings expose only title and location.
  • 2,912 of 2,912 (100%) verified-unique postings (no duplicate URLs or titles within the cohort).
  • ~21% of all roles at mid-senior or above (Senior, Lead/Principal/Staff, Director/Head/VP) — up from ~17% in June.
  • ~1.6% of roles explicitly allow Remote or flexible work.

The drop from June’s 6,804 active postings is not a 57% hiring collapse. June was the first full month of indexing and captured a backlog of pre-existing postings; July captured only genuinely-new listings. The steady-state monthly flow across the monitored universe is roughly 7,000–8,000 new postings — and notably, 60% of July’s postings (4,361) had already closed by the August 6 snapshot, meaning the true top-of-funnel hiring velocity is materially higher than the active count suggests.

2. Who Is Hiring

2.1 The Single-Largest Hirer: Eurofins CDMO (Normalizing, Not Retreating)

Eurofins CDMO remains the #1 hirer with 766 active July roles — down from 2,510 in June, but the decline is backlog normalization, not a hiring freeze. The company still spans ~30 countries in July:

Country July-active roles Country July-active roles
United States 291 Denmark 8
France 141 Switzerland 7
Netherlands 52 Sweden 6
India 42 New Zealand 6
Germany 41 Brazil 6
Vietnam 39 Australia 4
United Kingdom 22 Taiwan, Greece, Chile 3 each
Poland 15 Romania, Portugal, Malaysia 2 each
Ireland 15 Turkey, Slovakia, Singapore, Finland, Austria, Colombia 1 each
Italy 14
Spain 12
Belgium 12
Canada 9

Top sites: Bengaluru (35), Lancaster US (32), Ho Chi Minh City (23), Rensselaer NY (20), Nantes (19), Lyon (16), Lenexa US (16), Leiden (11), Katowice (11), Hamburg (11). Titles remain lab/QC-concentrated — QA Test Engineer, Quality Assurance Specialist, Laboratory Technician, Formulation Development Scientist.

The bet: June’s 2,510 was inflated by first-capture backlog; 766 new postings in one month across the same ~30-country footprint is a sustained global capacity-expansion campaign. Watch Q3: if the monthly new-posting rate holds at 700–800, this is structural; if it decays below 400, June was a one-off.

2.2 The Big-Pharma Top 10 (Career Sites)

Excluding the single-source-dominated Eurofins bucket and an unvalidated AbbVie bucket (below), the cleanest company-level signal comes from the large-pharma career sites. In order of July-active hiring volume:

Rank Company July-active roles Notes
1 Eli Lilly 223 Manufacturing + digital heavy; Lilly Medicine Foundry buildout
2 Takeda 160 Global ops: German plasma centers, Japanese plant engineering, China commercial
3 Vertex Pharmaceuticals 87 Regulatory/medical-affairs depth (Patient Safety ICSR, Renal Regulatory Strategy)
4 Roche 82 AI-for-biology cluster (Foundational ML, Innovation Accelerator Data Science)
5 Pfizer 66 Vaccines, manufacturing, safety data
6 Novartis 53
7 Tempus 48 Oncology data platform
8 Sanofi 46
9 Zoetis 41 Animal health
10 Qiagen 39 Molecular sample technologies

Eli Lilly is the July counter-story. Its 223 postings are the most manufacturing-intensive big-pharma signal in the corpus this month: Scientist GMP Testing – Lilly Medicine Foundry, Scientist Process Analytical Technologies, Advisor Manufacturing Quality Assurance, plus digital roles (Sr Associate Consumer Digital Ecosystem, Software Product Engineering – Development Lead, Silicon Valley Hub) and postdoc science (Synthetic & Medicinal Chemistry). This is a coordinated medicine-foundry and digital-capability buildout.

Roche’s 82 postings punch above their count — the described slice shows Senior Machine Learning Scientist (Foundational ML, AI for Biology & Translation), Head Innovation Accelerator Data Science, Principal Scientist Computational Chemistry, and nucleic-acid payload engineering. Roche is hiring AI-for-biology at the IC level, not just in leadership.

AstraZeneca’s 32 active postings hide the real story: AZ indexed 924 postings in July; only 32 were still live on August 6. Either AZ’s requisitions close in weeks or its board shows only recent postings — either way, AZ’s true monthly hiring volume is several hundred, not 32. The snapshot understates the Big-Pharma six (Roche + Novartis + AZ + Pfizer + Sanofi + Takeda) the same way: ~434 active at snapshot vs ~1,000+ in June, partly real churn, partly fast closure.

2.3 The Single-Source Caveat

AbbVie appears with 500 roles in the July cohort, all through a single third-party hiring listing without per-posting URL validation in our dataset, and with no locations or descriptions attached. The number is plausible — AbbVie is one of the largest pharmas by market cap — but treat as an upper bound.

2.4 The AI-Native Tier Is Still Hiring, Modestly

The AI-bio startup tier remains present but small: Isomorphic Labs (10), Recursion (6), NewLimit (6), Terray Therapeutics (5), Iambic Therapeutics (5), Zeta Surgical (7), Iterative Health (21) — plus mid-cap AI-adjacent names (Weave 12). Single-digit-to-low-20s volume each, consistent with June. The AI-native hiring wave has not yet scaled.

3. What Roles Are Hot

3.1 Seniority Mix

Seniority Roles Share
Individual Contributor / Unspecified 2,049 70.4%
Senior 372 12.8%
Associate / Assistant 179 6.1%
Director / Head / VP 147 5.0%
Lead / Principal / Staff 88 3.0%
Manager 57 2.0%
Junior 13 0.4%
Intern 7 0.2%

Reading: mid-senior+ (Senior + Lead/Principal/Staff + Director/Head/VP) = 607 roles, 20.8% — up from ~17% in June. Manager+ = 204 (7.0%). The July cohort skews more senior than June’s because the Eurofins IC flood shrank and Lilly/Takeda/Vertex are posting Sr/Director-heavy requisitions. Entry pipeline (Intern + Junior + Associate/Assistant) = 199 (6.8%) — still a live on-ramp.

3.2 Departments

Where department is tagged (38% of rows):

Department Count
Testing & Laboratory 538
IT 60
Commercial & Customer Care 52
Finance 32
Quality Assurance 29
Operations 27
Administrative Support 20
Engineering 19
Logistics 17
Quality 16
Supply Chain 15
R&D 12

Reading: same shape as June — where department IS populated, Testing & Laboratory dominates by ~9x (Eurofins + CRO/QC labs). IT, Quality, Supply Chain, and Engineering are visible but small. 62% of rows carry no department tag (most large-pharma postings surface only title and location).

3.3 Recurring Titles

July is even more fragmented than June: only three titles repeat at 3+ — HR Business Partner (4), Executive Assistant (3), Scientist (3). No single title or functional cluster dominates by title repetition; the hiring market remains structurally diverse.

3.4 What Big-Pharma Is Hiring For (by Title Sample)

  • Eli Lilly: Scientist GMP Testing – Lilly Medicine Foundry; Utilities Automation Engineer; SecOps Engineer – IAM; Sr. Director HSE – GMP; Postdoctoral Scientist – Synthetic & Medicinal Chemistry; Operator, Aseptic Filling (Night Shift), Concord NC
  • Roche: Senior Machine Learning Scientist, Foundational ML, AI for Biology & Translation; Head, Innovation Accelerator Data Science; Principal Scientist (Computational Chemistry); Postdoctoral Fellow (Regev & Lubeck Labs); Senior Scientist – Nucleic Acids Payload Engineering
  • Vertex: Director, Patient Safety ICSR; Regulatory Strategy Director, Renal; Director, Regulatory Data Management; Senior Medical Science Liaison
  • Pfizer: Vaccines Specialist; Manager, Vulnerability Management; Team Leader – Manufacturing; Safety Data Management Specialist
  • AbbVie: Business Unit Director, Immunology; Associate Director, Immunology Finance; HPLC Specialist, Scientist II, Biologics Drug Product Development
  • Takeda: Nurse (w/m/d) with phlebotomy, Graz plasma center; Plant Engineer, Hikari site (Japanese-language posting); Principal Business Analyst; MCR, OBU, HEMA, Guangzhou

The pattern: Big-Pharma hiring in July 2026 is manufacturing-scale-up + specialty-clinical + computational/AI + regulatory depth — Lilly’s medicine-foundry buildout, Roche’s AI-for-biology cluster, Vertex’s regulatory program expansion. The roles are senior, technical, and program-specific.

4. The Tech-Stack / Keyword Signal

Across the 180 July-active jobs with full descriptions (6.2% of the cohort — most postings expose only title and location), we ran a bounded-regex library against the description text and counted distinct jobs mentioning each term:

Jobs Term Jobs Term
33 FDA 7 21 CFR Part 11
29 Workday 7 Machine Learning
29 R (programming) 6 Power BI
28 Validation 6 GMP Manufacturing
22 Clinical Trials 5 SQL
21 GMP 5 Tableau
15 Gene Therapy 5 LIMS
14 Regulatory Affairs 5 AWS
14 GCP (mostly Good Clinical Practice) 4 EDC
13 Python 4 Generative AI
12 GxP 4 Azure
11 Veeva 4 mRNA
11 AI/ML 3 AAV
11 SAP 3 GDPR
10 Quality Assurance 3 ELISA
10 Quality Control 2 LLM, SAS, CDISC, ELN, Flow Cytometry, GLP, LC-MS, qPCR, Single Cell, Computational Biology, Salesforce
8 Pharmacovigilance 1 NGS, CRISPR, HPLC, Proteomics, iPSC, Bioinformatics, SDTM, Snowflake, Databricks, Terraform, C#, C++, MATLAB, NLP, ServiceNow, Genomics

4.1 What the Numbers Tell Us

R remains the top programming language, but its share of described jobs fell from 25% to 16%. R (29 jobs) still leads Python (13) by 2.2:1 — the same ratio as June — but the absolute count dropped because the July described cohort no longer includes Regeneron’s biostatistics-heavy postings (Regeneron’s feed was not captured this month). Attribution is now CSL (13), Jazz (8), Takeda (4), Amgen (4), Novo Nordisk (4). The SAS→R→Python transition remains in flight; R is still the language of biostatistics.

Regulatory vocabulary is the durable backbone, again. FDA (33), Clinical Trials (22), GMP (21), GxP (12), Regulatory Affairs (14), Quality Assurance (10), Quality Control (10), Pharmacovigilance (8), 21 CFR Part 11 (7). GxP-validated roles stay staffed regardless of capital cycle — unchanged from June.

Gene therapy is the modality story of July. Gene Therapy (15 jobs) outranks mRNA (4) and AAV (3) — the first time in this corpus. Attribution: CSL (10 mentions), Insmed (9), Ocugen (5). With CSL, Dyne, AskBio, Beeline, and Ocugen all live in the July cohort, this is consistent with the ongoing gene-therapy buildout across the industry.

AI/ML is real but pre-inflection — and tightening. Any-AI-term appears in 15 of 180 described jobs (8.3%), down from ~19% in June — again cohort composition (no Regeneron, no NewLimit descriptions in July). The notable shift: Generative AI language (15 mentions across just 4 jobs) now recurs inside Moderna and Jazz postings — IC-adjacent, not just senior-leadership strategy language. LLM (2), NLP (1). The “AI replaces drug discovery” thesis is still not visible in hiring data; classic ML roles remain the bulk.

Enterprise software is locked in — and Workday is now the #2 term in the corpus. Workday appears in 29 of 180 described jobs (up from 12 in June): mostly the “apply via Workday” boilerplate in Insmed’s and Lilly’s postings, but it confirms the applicant-flow stack. Veeva (11), SAP (11 — Moderna’s postings mention SAP 20 times), Salesforce (2), ServiceNow (1). LIMS (5), ELN (2) keep the lab-informatics stack named.

The BI stack surfaces as a new signal. Power BI (6 jobs) and Tableau (5) — CSL, Jazz, Novo Nordisk, and Lilly all name them explicitly. Commercial/clinical analytics roles are buying Microsoft/Tableau tooling, not just SQL.

The clinical-data standards stack is nearly invisible in July — SAS (2), CDISC (2), SDTM (1), EDC (4), SQL (5) — and biostatistics appears in zero described jobs (it was 7 in June). This is a described-cohort artifact (no Regeneron biostats postings captured), not a market signal; the R/statistics demand persists per the R count above.

Cloud is thin but AWS-led. AWS (5), Azure (4), plus singles for Snowflake, Databricks, Terraform. GCP’s 14 mentions are ~all Good Clinical Practice, not Google Cloud. Life sciences still runs on validated on-prem + AWS/Azure.

5. Geographic and Work-Mode Patterns

5.1 Geographic Spread

Country Roles Location (top cities) Roles
United States 923 Boston, MA 50
France 138 Bengaluru, India 35
India 83 Lancaster, US 32
United Kingdom 63 Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam 23
Netherlands 55 Philadelphia, PA 23
Vietnam 40 Rensselaer, NY 20
Ireland 38 Nantes, France 19
Germany 25 Lenexa, US 16
Poland 24 Lyon, France 16
Canada 23 Thousand Oaks, CA (Amgen) 15
Belgium 17 Eschweiler, DE / Exton, PA 14 each
Australia / Brazil / Italy 15 each Indianapolis, IN (Lilly) 12
Denmark 14 Buffalo, NY / Bridgewater, NJ / Parsippany, NJ 12 each
Spain / Switzerland 11 each Hamburg, DE / London, UK 11 each

Reading: the US leads, but the story is again “global with US + Western Europe + India concentration,” driven by Eurofins’s footprint. 43% of July rows carry no location tag at all (AbbVie’s 500, plus most Workday big-pharma rows — Takeda 101, Roche 82, Pfizer 66, Tempus 48), so the country table is a lower bound, not the full picture.

5.2 Remote and Hybrid Remain Essentially Absent

Work Mode Roles
Unspecified 2,883
Remote (explicit) 29
“Working from Home” 17

Remote-or-flexible ≈ 46 of 2,912 roles (1.6%) — 29 explicitly Remote (BeOne Medicines, Artera, Catalyst, argenx, Jazz field sales, 4D Molecular, Erasca…) plus 17 tagged “Working from Home” (Insmed 13, Dyne 3, Sanofi 1). Life-sciences hiring in July 2026 is overwhelmingly onsite, unchanged from June. The ~1-2% remote allowance is concentrated in commercial/sales and software roles.

6. Cross-Cutting Observations

6.1 The June → July Drop Is a Data Story, Not a Hiring Collapse

June indexed 13,212 postings (6,804 active at snapshot) — a first-month backlog capture. July indexed 7,273 (2,912 active). The steady-state flow is ~7,000–8,000/month, and 60% of July postings closed within the month. Monthly hiring velocity is much higher than either snapshot number shows.

6.2 Fast-Closing Requisitions Are the New Signal

AstraZeneca indexed 924 postings in July; 32 were live on August 6. Across the corpus, 60% of July postings closed in days-to-weeks. Either requisitions are filling fast or boards surface only recent postings — both readings mean the live count understates real hiring activity.

6.3 Eurofins Normalized — Watch Q3 for Sustenance

766 new postings across ~30 countries in July vs 2,510 in June (backlog-inflated). If the 700–800/month rate holds through Q3, it’s a structural global expansion.

6.4 Lilly Is the Big-Pharma Counter-Story

223 postings, manufacturing-heavy (Lilly Medicine Foundry), plus digital and postdoc science. A newly-captured careers feed reveals what a fully-indexed big-pharma board looks like in July — and it’s expansion, not contraction.

6.5 Gene Therapy Is the Modality Hiring Story

Gene Therapy (15) > mRNA (4) > AAV (3) in described jobs. CSL, Insmed, Ocugen, Dyne, AskBio, Beeline all live here. Watch August for whether this holds.

6.6 AI/ML: Pre-Inflection, Concentration Shifting

8.3% of described jobs mention any AI term (cohort-composition-adjusted). GenAI language now recurs inside Moderna and Jazz postings rather than only at Lilly/Sanofi/Regeneron senior-leadership titles. The AI-native startup tier (Isomorphic 10, Recursion 6, Terray 5, Iambic 5, NewLimit 6, Zeta Surgical 7, Iterative Health 21) keeps hiring modestly.

6.7 R Still Beats Python 2.2:1 — But the Signal Moved

R 29 vs Python 13, same ratio as June, but the R-heavy biostatistics descriptions (Regeneron) are absent from July’s slice. The demand is real; the measurement is cohort-dependent.

6.8 Workday Has Won — and Now It’s in the Job Text

Workday is the #2 most-mentioned term in described jobs (29 of 180), mostly applicant-flow boilerplate, confirming the big-pharma hiring stack. Veeva + SAP stable. The enterprise lock-in thesis holds for H2 2026.

6.9 Remote Is Still Structurally Dead in Life Sciences

~1.6% remote-or-flexible, concentrated in sales/software. Lab, plant, and manufacturing dependence keeps the industry onsite.

7. What to Watch Over the Next 6 Months

  1. Eurofins’s monthly new-posting rate through Q3 — 700–800/month = structural expansion; <400 = June one-off. The 2,510 June number is not the baseline.
  2. Eli Lilly’s Medicine Foundry buildout — GMP Testing, PAT, and Manufacturing QA roles at the Foundry sites; if the manufacturing cluster keeps growing, Lilly is on a capacity campaign (GLP-1-class and beyond).
  3. Whether AZ’s churn pattern generalizes — 924 indexed → 32 live. If other big-pharma feeds show the same fast-close velocity in August, the industry is filling roles at 10x the snapshot rate.
  4. Gene-therapy modality hiring — CSL/Insmed/Ocugen/Dyne/AskBio/Beeline all live. If August’s described cohort again shows Gene Therapy > mRNA, the buildout is the H2 story.
  5. Regeneron’s return — its feed was not captured in July (last polled June 27); its biostatistics-heavy postings were a major part of June’s R/clinical-data signal. Watch for it to reappear.
  6. AI-native startup hiring — Isomorphic (10), Recursion (6), Terray (5), Iambic (5), NewLimit (6), Zeta Surgical (7), Iterative Health (21). If any of these scale past 50 postings, the AI-bio hiring wave is starting.
  7. BI-stack adoption — Power BI + Tableau appearing in CSL/Jazz/Novo/Lilly postings; if this expands, life-sciences analytics tooling is consolidating on Microsoft/Tableau.

8. The Bottom Line

The July 2026 life-sciences hiring market is steady-state healthy, not collapsing — the 2,912 active postings (down from June’s 6,804) reflect backlog normalization and 60% in-month churn, not a 57% hiring freeze. The durable patterns from June hold: GxP/Quality/Regulatory roles are the backbone, R still leads Python for statistical computing, Workday/Veeva/SAP own the enterprise stack, and remote work is structurally absent. The July deltas: Eli Lilly emerged as the largest big-pharma poster with a manufacturing-heavy Medicine Foundry buildout; gene-therapy roles outnumbered mRNA for the first time; GenAI language moved from senior-leadership-only into IC-level postings at Moderna and Jazz; and the AI-native startup tier kept hiring at modest single-digit-to-low-20s volume.

For job seekers: the R/Python biostatistics profile still has demand (even if this month’s slice undercounts it), GxP-validated lab/QA/regulatory roles remain the durable on-ramp, gene-therapy experience is becoming a distinct hiring premium, and BI/analytics skills (Power BI, Tableau) are newly visible in pharma postings. For employers: Big-Pharma is buying manufacturing scale-up (Lilly), AI-for-biology IC talent (Roche), and regulatory depth (Vertex) — expect compensation pressure in those three lanes through H2 2026.

The data does not support “biotech hiring freeze.” It supports “biotech hiring is running at a high-velocity, fast-closing steady state, concentrated in manufacturing scale-up, gene therapy, and technical depth — with the snapshot numbers understating the true flow.”

Sources: Public life-sciences company career pages and hiring listings; 7,273 July-2026 job postings indexed, 2,912 active across 88 companies at the August 6 snapshot; keyword-frequency analysis on the 180-posting subset with full descriptions; cross-tabbed by company, source channel, department, location, and seniority. Public-company hiring data is captured at a single point in time and will move with each refresh; treat as directional rather than exact.
